Cup Win!!
|
|
|
Jim Schofield scored the only goal of a tough physical encounter
at Uxbridge as Icarus progressed to the Middlesex Cup Semi-Final.
Icarus were slow to get started, but Portaluri and Hodgkinson
could have given Icarus the lead in the first half, however, it
was a great break by Martins-Tonks that resulted in a penalty
a minute into the second half that Schofield dispatched under
presure.
Icarus are now waiting to find out who awaits them in the semi
at the end of February.

Andrew Arnison and Lee Hodgkinson both reached the remarkable
milestone of 100 Caps for Icarus as they played their part in
a stirring victory against a Boston Utd XI.
The goals game from Hodgkinson (3), Joyce and Arnison. Boston
dominated possession in the first 35 minutes, but Icarus gradually
forced them back with their physical presence and guile. After
going in at the break 1-0 up a superb second half performance
resulted in 4 more goals.

Icarus Win in Friendly
|
|
|
Icarus beat a London League XI 4-1 on Friday afternoon, with the
goals coming from James Render, Tom Summerville (2) and Gino Portaluri.
In a major blow, winger Render has damaged ligaments in his knee.
The Club are currently waiting for the results of a scan to assess
how long he will be out for.
After a slow start and a few Xmas cobwebs to blow away, Icarus
did enough to beat a London League side containing some excellent
players; but with Boston Utd arriving at Uxbridge Road on Thursday
the players do not have time to rest on the laurels!

Mixed Results on Busy weekend
|
|
|
Icarus cruised into the Middlesex Cup 1/4 Final with a 7-0 win
against Globe Rangers on Saturday, but fell to the RAF Under 23's
2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Tom Summerville grabbed a hat-trick in the Cup with Martins-Tonks,
Render, Portaluri and Hodgkinson scoring the others.
A poor first half performance at Cosford saw Icarus trailing at
half time to the U23s, but a strong second half showing meant
that the players could travel home with some pride.
Another big plus from the weekend was the return to action of
Dave Scott after 4 months away.

Icarus Perform Well in
First Test of Season
|

to win 3-1.
Coach Joe Griffin was delighted with the days efforts, he told
us, "we played superbly well in the first half and you wouldn't
have known it was the first game of the pre-season. At the end
of the day the fresh legs were crucial and the score does not

Icarus Vets Draw with Army
|
|
|
Icarus Vets dominated Saturday's fixture v the Army Crusaders,
but after failing to put way their chances, conceded a last minute
equaliser through an own goal. Despite the disappointment of not
winning, Icarus can take heart from a good performance.
John Hetherington had given Icarus the lead in the first half
after a Jon Pullen flick from a long throw launched by Rich Pratley.
Unfortunately despite creating many clear cut opportunities to
put the game to bed the important second goal did not come!
The First Team take on the RLC TA on Sunday at Cranwell hoping
to build on their good performance against Newport County last
month.

Icarus Draw with Newport
County
|
|
|
Icarus put in a superb performance at Brize Norton yesterday to
secure a draw against a strong Newport team containing 4 Welsh
Under 18 International players and a number of first teamers returning
from injury.
Icarus weathered a Newport storm in the second half and took the
lead with 5 minutes to go through Lee Hodgkinson. With the game
deep into injury time a Newport free kick was not cleared and
the ball was turned into the net for an own goal. The Icarus back
four had played like lions and despite the late equalizer, the
whole team can take credit for an excellent result.
Thanks to Mike Greenway for arranging the game and Icarus can
now look forward to a potential fixture against the Welsh Under
18 side and a return game with Newport County.

Icarus lose Cup 1/4 Final
Thriller
|
|
|
The Icarus squad were devastated to go out of the AFA Cup in extraordinary
fashion yesterday after scoring five goals and still failing to
win the match.
After taking a two goal lead through Martins-Tonks and Gino Portaluri,
Icarus found themselves 4-2 down at half time. They rallied in
the second half, scoring three goals through Portaluri again,
Dan Turner and Rich Pratley. All the goals are available on IcarusTV.
The whole team were gutted and must now lift themselves for the
RAFP game a week on Thursday.

Icarus Beat Army
|
|
|
After rain flooded the Aldershot pitch, the Army fixture was hastily
moved to RAF Odiham.
Icarus started slowly and only came to life after Martins-Tonks
had given them the lead from a Hetherington cross. Shortly afterwards
Renders burst forward and was brought down in the box allowing
Lowe to step up and slot home the resulting penalty.
The second half was a dull affair and Icarus sealed the game with
15 minutes to go when a Hetherington through ball was deflected
into their own goal by the Army defence.
Overall this was a good work out for Icarus before next weeks
cup tie.

Portaluri fires hat-trick
as Icarus beat IOT
|
|
|
Icarus battled through appalling conditions to win convincingly
at Cranwell today against IOT. After a difficult journey Icarus
found themselves a goal down within a minute and it took all their
character to get back in the game through Gino Portaluri and Lee
Hodgkinson.
Icarus pulled away in the second half with two more Portaluri goals
and a Shane Rutherford free-kick.
The team now head into the Christmas break on a high and the Chairman's
traditional Christmas party should be a jolly affair on Tuesday
night in Wendover. |

Exciting Night at Uxbridge
|
|
|
Icarus put in a magnificent performance against Boston Utd last
night showing that they can compete with full time footballers
at a high level.
Icarus were one down at half time thanks to an unfortunate deflected
own goal. Boston had had the better of the chances, however, Icarus
had gone close on a couple of occasions.
Icarus came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and
dominated for much of it, equalising through Lee Hodgkinson on
58 minutes. Icarus had a clear penalty appeal turned down and
Portaluri and Hodgkinson both went close to giving Icarus the
lead. Disaster struck with 5 minutes to go when a bad back pass
put in a Boston striker to score and win the game.

Cup Success and Close Battle
at Cosford
|
|
|
Icarus stormed through to the 1/4 final of the AFA Cup on Saturday
with a 4-2 victory over RBS. The goals came from Ben Fisher, Jim
Schofield (2) and Dave Bond. Icarus have drawn Bealonians FC at
home in the 1/4 final which is due to be played on 31 January
2009.
On Sunday a battered Icarus traveled to Cosford to take on the
RAF Development squad. After suffering a number of injuries on
Saturday it was always going to be a tough task, and so it proved
as Icarus lost Fisher early to injury and found themselves two
down at half time despite having a convincing penalty claim turned
down.
Icarus changed their shape at half time and just edged the next
45 minutes. The young RAF players did not break them down in the
second half and Gino Portaluri pulled a goal back with 10 minutes
to go. Icarus piled on the pressure, but could not find what would
have been a deserved equalizer.

|
Dave Bond scored the vital second goal as Icarus Vets beat Lyneham
2-1 this afternoon. Steve Wood gave Icarus the lead before having
to leave the field with a back injury in the first half.
It was another good performance from the Vets with Rob Swinney
in commanding form at the back and Mike Greenway excelling in
midfield. The Lyneham goal came when goal keeper Hetherington
punched the ball into his own net after a corner.

Icarus Vets Unlucky Away to
HAC
|
|
|

on Saturday, Steve Wood grabbing the goal.
After conceding twice in a short space of time, Icarus were unlucky
when Icarus Legend, Rob Swinney hit the bar with only minutes
left on the clock.
Icarus have a fixture next Sunday against Nap Hill FC near High
Wycombe. It should prove to be a good opportunity to prepare for
the Boston Utd fixture on the 27 April.
