Day 3 saw the full squad assemble after breakfast to attend the team tactics brief delivered by Si Hays. A discernibly different brief to that delivered on non-Veterans tours in that the tactics were shaped by the physical abilities (or not) of the players in attendance. Notwithstanding, the focus on possession remained and a shape/system was employed to facilitate this style of play.
The game itself took place at NETMA’s sports facilities, Halbergmoos. Cognisant that the on-pitch temperature was >25C, the initial 20 minutes were focussed on ball retention and discipline. Our early self-discipline started to get results as the Masters took hold of the game and, a combination of our superior fitness levels, crisp passing and organisation meant that we ran out comfortable winners in the end (12-1). The game was played in an excellent spirit with both teams socialising after the game and sharing past glories.
