RAF Icarus FC 1-3 West Wickham Reserves
Yesterday saw RAF Icarus FC compete in the Intermediate AFA Cup Final against West Wickham Reserves. Icarus started well, with some neat build up play leading to a free kick from 25 yards and the first chance of the game. Only a few minutes in, Kirk-Ellis whipped an effort into the top bin, 1-0 to Icarus. If Soccer AM wasn’t being cancelled, you’d probably see Jimmy Bullard trying to recreate it. Ultimately, this was as good as it got for the Officer set up, with West Wickham dictating play and keeping hold of possession. Icarus stood firm and made it to half time at 1-0. The first half resilience was broken on the 50th minute, when, after a string of passes, West Wickham found space on the edge of the box and dispatched an effort into the bottom corner. A well drilled side and with quality players off the bench, they took the momentum, hitting a quick fire second. The third goal was the killer blow and despite Icarus creating a couple of chances, only one team looked like winning. For Icarus FC, it can be a season to be proud of, but ultimately West Wickham were the better team and deserved winners on the day.
The attention now turns to building on the foundations of this season and progressing in the RAF branch tournament.
