Icarus Senior Squad v RAF Cranwell

This fixture was eventually played at RAF Waddington and was a useful pre-season opener for most. The Lincolnshire location brought about the usual paucity of regulars and thanks to some valuable networking from members of the Committee, reinforcemetns were drafted in so we could field a full side.
 
ICARUS started well knwing they had speed up front in Mike Turrell and with Ash Steele on fine threading form it was not long before ICARUS got the opener and spotted the Cranwell keeper the vulnerable point. Just 5 mins later Matt Williams was also in passing form, setting up Wrighty who had a job to do and successfully blocked on rushing defenders before slotting the ball home.
 
With ICARUS getting plenty of posession down their right, loanee Paul Owen had plenty of chances to get forward and whipped a ball in for Turrell to tuck home on the turn. Half time 3-0.
 
But seconds into second half a sublime chip from Hickinbotham bounced on the hard surface and invited the leaping Tyres to open his account for the season. Hicki was involved moments later when he chipped the Keeper from 25yds, 5-0.
 
With Turrell seemingly omnipresent, his hat trick was inevitable and what a finish, outside of box, 2 touches, diagonal strike into the top right - unstoppable!6-0
 
With skipper Williams reportedly practicing penalties more than his FRCs, evidence of this was in the spot kick won by you guessed it, Wrighty. Williams blasted the ball into the top left corner, another 3inches and would have fodded the airfield. 7-0.
 
Only in the last 5 mins did ICARUS risk conceding when an attack down Cranwell right fed an attacker who was closed down by onruching Rose, which bounced off someone ans was eventually cleared by Cope.
