Match report

Following the Vet's miraculous comeback and enthralling 4-4 draw, the almost AFA Cup winning side had the opportunity to demonstrate the prowess, quality and togetherness that had served them so well during the successful cup campaign. With Crusaders missing some of their more recognisable faces, Dan Turner set to work down the right side and began his act of terrorising the Crusaders left back, consequently this saw less action on the opposite side, which on this Wembley sized pitch looked never mind fealt a fair distance away.  A generally good start by ICARUS was marred by a mismatch in timing between the full backs and midfield resulting in the midfield being bypassed and possession conceded. Thankfully the threat from Crusaders was not what we were used to. With composure on th ball seemingly variable across the starting XI, it was clear to see that fewer touches and greater tempo through use of Dan Turner would reap rewards in time.  Chances on 15mins upped the ICARUS tails and a variety of corners also keep Crusaders on their toes.

A 0-0 scoreline at the half noticeably frustrated some players. The season's experience prepared management to a minimal yet upbeat address. Points made, 3 touches plays quicker - 20yd passes need quality - space is there to use centre mid - it will come.

Despite his attacking prowess, Dan Turner was put to right back and Alex Wright deservedly entered the game. This was the start of 5 subs on the night!

A ferocious second half start from ICARUS saw Alex Toogood hunt down a poor Crusaders backpass on 50 mins. 1-0 ICARUS; and relax.

Clearly inspired by his goal, Toogood turned provider with a beautiful through ball for Tom Somerville who went round the keeper for a left foot tap in; 2-0 que subs.  Fresh from his fast jet solo around Anglesey, Dave Turnbull entereed the game at left mid as Matt Williams moved inside for Ash Steele whose rapid in season rise through the ICARUS ranks has been a joy to witness. On 80mins the energised and overlapping Dan Turner turned provider with a stunning half volley for that man Tom Somerville to head home. The second half dominance from ICARUS had now well and truly taken the wind out of the Crusaders sails.

In search for a back line that is up to the job next season, Club Legend Arnison made was for big man Tom Phelan who made a very positive impression in the warm up and his time on the pitch. Conal Dixon and Charlie Woollatt also got their caps.  With nearly the last kick of the game, a first time through ball from Toogood setup Dave Turnbull to score on his fast jet solo - what a day he's had!

Some encouraging defensive performances, angered attacking overlaps from Turner and reliable high pressure from the front line ensured the 4-0 scoreline was adequate for the performance.  The changes undoubtedly had an impact on the game but with the aims being to get game time, build confidence and partnerships for season 16/17 - this was a very rewardable and many day at the office for many.
