Icarus Masters season review 24/25

Icarus Masters season review 24/25

Adam Broome28 May - 11:15

A look back at the successful season of the Masters 24/25 season.

Lets hope this ends with silverware. Lets go back to where it began for the Masters this season.
The season started for the Masters on 18th September 2024 at 1900 against a relatively unknown Chinnor Vets. An action packed season opener saw a red card for both teams and 3 goals scored with 2 of them in favour of the Masters with Jim and Tom the scorers leading the boys to a 2-1 opening day win. This was then followed up by an away trip to Bicester Town Vets which, unfortunately saw the Masters fall to a surprising 1-0 loss. Having played 2, won 1, lost 1, it only made sense for the next game to exactly how you'd expect in order to get a tick in every box. This game saw the Masters host Whitney Royals Vets at Thame Park and even though both teams had plenty of chances, the game ended 0-0.

As the season entered the wet and cold season of November, the Masters looked to catch fire and begin a charge up the table. This started with a 2-1 win away at Marcham Vets followed up swiftly by an away 4-0 dismantling of Chinnor Vets with goals shared between Kev Lee, Coops x2 and Hodgy. The final game of the 2024 year saw Icarus Masters host Clanfield at Thame Valley, arguably the best 2 teams in the league and both equal favourites for the title, going at it and brining 2024 to an end with resounding effect. After a close and tense game it was the Icarus Masters that came out on top 2-1. Finishing 2024 with a record of: P 6 W 4 D 1 L 1 Pts 13.

2025 began in slow fashion, as Icarus Masters travelled to Abingdon Town vets and after a 2nd red card of the season for the team, Icarus managed to hang on to a 1-1 draw. This was quickly forgotten as a cup game against Marcham was on the horizon and due to be played the following week. Despite the best efforts of the coaching staff and team, yet another shock result appeared in the Masters result book as they fell 1-0 to Marcham and were out of the cup at the first round, no double champs this season.

This result seemed to spur the Masters on through the rest of the season as they went onto win 4 of the final 5 games and drawing 1. Notably doing the double over their closest rivals for the title, Clanfield Vets with Coops grabbing the vital goal in the 1-0 win. The results were as follows:
White Royals 0-2 Icarus
Clanfield 0-1 Icarus
Icarus 0-0 Bicester
Icarus HW Abingdon
Icarus 4-3 Marcham

This leaves Icarus top of the league having played all their games and 6 points ahead of Clanfield, who have 2 games left to play against Abingdon and Whitney Royals, both away. If Clanfield win these 2 fixtures, they will pip Icarus to the title on GD but another less than 2 wins will give Icarus the title. Regardless of the results, the Masters can hold their heads high and say they have had a successful season. We now just await Clanfield and hope that the pressure is too much for them.

No matter the outcome, a great season and we at Icarus would just like to say thank you to all those that played, coached, Officiated Si ;) and of course given up their valuable time to help grow this team and club. 2 teams, 1 club! We can't wait for next season. Up the Ics!
