Icarus faced the RAF College on a warm and sunny Saturday morning at RAF Cranwell. The College team appeared to be much stronger than in recent seasons and it promised to be a competitive encounter!

Icarus lined up with a severe shortage of centre half's and veteran stopper Martin Wyer was drafted in to play along side Joe Griffin who dropped into the sweeper role from midfield. Icarus started the game slowly and with a physical College team working hard to close the ball down the best opportunities to score were from set pieces.

After 15 minutes Griffin whipped in a wonderful cross to the far post from a free kick which Martins-Tonks headed a yard wide under pressure from the defender. Shortly afterward Hodgkinson hit the cross bar from 18 yards and Jim Schofield went close as he hit the post with a header.

With the score still 0-0 at half time the College went into the dressing room satisfied with their mornings work so far. Icarus made one change at half time, bringing on Howie Heap for Alex Stones on the left of midfield and 5 minutes into the second half Hetherington entered the fray in place of Shane Rutherford. This gave Hodgkinson more support up front and allowed Jim Schofield more space to work in midfield.

Shortly after this change Arnison throw the ball back to Griffin, who under pressure lobbed the ball high into the College penalty box and over the keeper into the top corner. One nil to Icarus and Icarus were now playing with a degree of confidence missing in the first half. Hodgkinson went close again, hitting the bar from 16 yards and Jim Schofield headed over from another Griffin corner.

With 20 minutes to go Hodgkinson played a one two with Martins-Tonks who hit a low shot into the bottom corner of the net from 15 yards to make it 2-0 to Icarus. Icarus controlled possession from the remaining period of the game and lifted the Burma Trophy at full time for the 4th year in a row.
