An Icarus Development Team featuring some new faces, old faces
and players returning from long term absences took on RAF
Uxbridge.
Icarus
got of to a good start with chances being created for Hodgkinson,
Stones and Schofield. Unfortunately for Icarus good goal keeping
and rusty finishing kept the score at 0-0. With Icarus dominating
possession, the challenge was to keep patience and not try
to force the game. In fairness, they achieved this for a good
30 minutes before frustration set in and the game became more
direct.
Jim
Schofield went close, hitting the cross bar from 18 yards
and Alex Stones should have opened the scoring when he latched
onto a bad back pass only to see the keeper save his shot
when one on one. To everyone's surprise and Uxbridge's credit,
they opened the scoring when a dubious penalty was awarded
for handball against Schofield and was dully dispatched into
the net. Two minutes later the score were level when Schofield
robbed Uxbridge in their own half and smashed the ball into
the net.
At
half time Ady Smith and Mark Hinde entered the field to make
their Icarus debuts and it didn't take long for Hodgkinson
to give Icarus the lead, turning sharply in the box to hammer
the ball into the back of the net. Shortly after wards Hinde
scored with a low drive into the bottom corner of the goal,
before Hodgkinson again got in on the action with a good finish
in the penalty box.
Hinde
stuck another clinical finish to make it 5-1 to Icarus and
after Hetherington had his shot blocked on the line by a hand,
Hinde took the resultant penalty to score a debut hat-trick.
Uxbridge
had proven themselves a diffcult team to break down in the
first half and it is some credit to them that they performed
so well against a strong Icarus Development Team.
