After a 2 month break the London Cup was back on the agenda for Icarus on a sunny but cold day at RAF Uxbridge. With a strong squad to choose from, Icarus went into the game full of confidence, and after a bright first ten minutes that confidence looked well placed. Gino Portaluri and Dan Turner were seeing plenty of the ball out wide, and it was Turner who went the closest to scoring by hitting the near post after a good passing move involving Hetherington, Hodgkinson and Griffin. A few minutes later Hetherington broke into the penalty box and pulled the ball back for Portaluri who shot over the bar from 12 yards.

Unfortunately, Icarus lost momentum after this and were on the back foot for most of the rest of the half. With Thorntonians gaining in confidence they won a series of corners which Icarus struggled to deal with effectively. Steve Ricketts in goal was called upon to make some crucial interventions and keep the score nil-nil.

Icarus was playing on the break and not getting support forward quickly enough, however with Griffin's trickery and Turner's pace they always threatened when attacking in numbers.

When the half time whistle blew it offered a chance for Icarus to regroup. They came out for the second half determined to get it right. It proved to be a much better second half, however it still took some time to make the breakthrough. The best early chance fell to Schofield who was released by Hetherington into the box, but shot wide.

10 minutes later Hodgkinson was brought down in the box in front of goal and Schofield stepped up calmly to slot home from the resultant penalty.

Icarus improved immensely after this and began to make chances. Hodgkinson volleyed over from a Griffin cross and substitute Daz Coleman made the game safe with a goal at the far post with 10 minutes to go. Griffin went close from 20 yards before the end and Portaluri was unlucky with a snap shot.

When the game ended Icarus were delighted to be in the semi final, but relieved that they had rode a very tricky storm.
